About the Board
Our Board provides leadership, direction and purpose and ensures good governance and effective systems are in place to shape, enable and oversee the management of the organisation.
The Board is made up of members of the community who are passionate about our Mission, Vision and Values and who wish to see the organisation move from strength to strength. Being a Board member allows you to lend your skills and experience to support our not-for-profit organisation, and contribute to the different skills, experiences and voices that we need to contribute to effective governance.
This Opportunity
MWCLA is seeking a Board Chair who will champion MWCLAs purpose and strategic direction and MWCLAs work in enriching the lives of people with disability and their families by supporting choices and creating opportunities to live as part of the community. The MWCLA Board Chair will provide leadership to the Board and assure the integrity of the Boards processes in accordance with the MWCLA Constitution, governance policies and organisational procedures and systems.
This voluntary position would require the following contributions:
Regularly presiding over Board meetings (held approximately monthly).
Preparing for and being well informed on agenda items (approx. 6-10 hours per month).
Participating fully and openly in meetings.
Undertaking relevant training, including infrequent weekend training.
Representing the Association at specific events.

You are passionate about MWCLAs role in supporting the community and may be from the disabilities sector or from the wider community.
You have a desire to give back to your community, align closely with the values of MWCLA and wish to make a positive difference in peoples lives by governing and steering a highly valued organisation.
Highly desirable candidates would have skills and professional experience in one or more of the fields listed below:
Human resource management
Governance and strategic planning
Marketing, digital media, communications, media relations
Fundraising and coordinating events
Running a small business
Previous experience of Chairing a not-for-profit Board, or at a minimum, demonstrated evidence of previous membership of a Board is essential for the role of Chairperson.
A strong history of experience with business operations would also be highly regarded.
All candidates should be able to provide a satisfactory National Police check and Working with Children check.
