Role Description:
Nardine Wimmin's Refuge was established in 1974 and is the oldest still operating women's refuge in Western Australia if not Australia. Nardine has a proud history as a feminist organisation, providing temporary accommodation and other support to women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Nardine understands that women from any background may experience family and domestic violence, and we work toward a society where all women and children can live free from such abuse.
We are seeking experienced and skilled individuals to complement our existing board. We are looking for individuals with one or more of the following skill sets:
Accounting / Finance / Investment, Advocacy / Government Relations, Business Development / Social Enterprise, Ethics, Fundraising, Governance, Human Resources, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Law & Legal Services, Marketing / Branding, Media / Communications / Public Relations, Research & Development / Innovation, Risk Management, Strategy (Strategic / Succession Planning)
The Board provides governance and strategic leadership to the organisation. The Board meetings are held monthly on the third Monday of every month. The board meetings are held at two locations covering the Perth CBD and local council area covered by Victoria Park. In addition board members are required to attend the Annual General Meeting and an annual strategic planning day. There are also active sub-committees as required (recruitment, policy review for example).
If your application relates specifically to the Treasurer Role the requirements and responsibilities are as follows:
- To act as Treasurer in accordance with the constitution and applicable legislation. The position also includes, but is not limited to:
- Oversee the financial administration with the bookkeeper/accountant and develop and maintain finance policies.
- Provide the board with regular updates on our financial situation including monthly cash flow and quarterly budget review.
- Support the CEO in the preparation of the budget and in monitoring how the organisation performs against the budget.
- Coordinate the production and presentation of the annual financial reports.
- Liaise with our auditors to ensure the timely approval of our audited annual report and accounts.
- Provide broader strategic and business advice.
For all positions it is expected that you have the time to commit to being part of an engaged active board. It is estimated for General Board Members a time commitment of no more that 8-10 hours per month would be required which includes attendance at the monthly board meetings. It is estimated for the Treasurer a time commitment of 10-12 hours per month would be required, again including attendance time at the monthly board meetings.
